Mississippi
AI behavior law: bot and agent disclosure, crawler and training-data rules, automated-agent transactions, and algorithmic decision-making.
Summary
Mississippi has no comprehensive AI-behavior statute, but has taken several targeted actions. In 2024, the Legislature criminalized AI-generated political deepfakes (SB 2577, eff. July 1, 2024). In 2025, Governor Reeves signed SB 2426 creating the Artificial Intelligence Regulation (AIR) Task Force to study AI governance and report annually through 2027, and separately issued Executive Order No. 1584 directing state agencies to inventory and develop policies for AI use. In 2026, the Legislature enacted HB 1723 (eff. July 1, 2026), which codifies a statutory definition of 'artificial intelligence' into Mississippi law — a foundational prerequisite for future regulation. The session's broader AI agenda largely stalled: SB 2046 (name, likeness and voice identity rights) and SB 2050 (AI-in-political-ads disclosure) both passed the Senate but died in House committee. Mississippi has no enacted chatbot-disclosure, automated-decision, or AI-agent law; the general consumer-protection and unfair-trade-practices statutes provide the only backstop against deceptive AI conduct toward consumers.
