Anti-Corruption Commission
Bundesamt zur Korruptionsprävention und Korruptionsbekämpfung
BAK
26/100
Summary
The BAK is organized within the Federal Ministry of Interior but sits outside the Directorate-General for Public Security, giving it structural separation from the police chain of command. It holds full criminal-police investigative powers and cooperates with the Economic and Corruption Prosecution (WKStA). It cannot impose discipline directly; findings are referred to the prosecutor or the disciplinary authority of the ministry. Under the 2023 BAK-G amendment, the BAK also houses the EBM (police ill-treatment complaints office) as a distinct organizational unit.
