Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption
FICAC
Summary
The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) was established by the FICAC Decree 2007, replacing the earlier Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption Act 1988. FICAC investigates corruption offences under the Prevention of Bribery Act and related statutes. It has jurisdiction over all persons including police officers and corrections staff, and may independently investigate corruption by LE personnel. However, FICAC is not a dedicated LE oversight body and does not investigate use-of-force or general police misconduct unless it involves a corruption element. It can prosecute but does not impose discipline — criminal prosecution is its primary tool. The Commissioner is appointed by the President.
