Summary
The Ombudsman of Guyana is constitutionally established under Articles 191-199 of the Constitution of Guyana (1980, as amended) and governed by the Ombudsman Act Cap. 27:52. The Ombudsman is appointed by the President acting in accordance with the advice of the Parliamentary Management Committee (bipartisan) for a four-year term. The Office investigates complaints of injustice resulting from maladministration by central government agencies and local democratic organs, issuing non-binding recommendations. Annual reports are submitted to the National Assembly.
