Centrul Național Anticorupție
CNA
Summary
The Centrul Național Anticorupție (CNA), established by Law 1104/2002 and reformed by Law 245/2023, is the national anti-corruption body with authority to investigate corruption offenses committed by public officials including police officers. Its director is appointed by Parliament for a 4-year term. CNA officers carry out special investigative activities (covert operations, searches, seizures) jointly with the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office. CNA does not directly discipline officers — criminal findings are forwarded to prosecutors. The 2023 reform delimited CNA's investigative mandate from the PA, with CNA retaining prevention, integrity assessment, and lower-threshold corruption investigations.
