Summary
The Inspectie Justitie en Veiligheid (Inspectorate of Justice and Security) is an administrative inspectorate within the Ministry of Justice and Security that supervises both the national police (under Politiewet 2012 art. 65) and the penitentiary service/prisons (under the Penitentiaire beginselenwet). It conducts systemic quality reviews, thematic inspections, and incident investigations, publishing public reports with recommendations to the minister. It does not impose discipline directly or conduct independent UOF criminal investigations; UOF cases are referred to the Rijksrecherche or the Public Prosecution Service.

Jurisdiction scope
Administrative inspection of the national police, penitentiary service (prisons, forensic clinics, youth detention), immigration detention, and other executing bodies of the Ministry of Justice and Security; investigates quality and legal compliance, publishes public reports, and may trigger recommendations to the minister
