26/100

Summary

The Direcția Generală Anticorupție (DGA, Anti-Corruption General Directorate) was established by Law 161/2005 as a specialized structure within the Ministry of Internal Affairs to prevent and combat corruption by MAI personnel — including Romanian Police, Gendarmerie, and Border Police officers. DGA judicial police officers conduct criminal investigations, integrity tests, and undercover operations against corrupt officers, working under prosecutorial supervision. The DGA Director General is appointed by the Minister of Internal Affairs. The body publishes annual activity reports. It is structurally inside MAI rather than fully independent, but exercises judicial-police authority and refers cases to prosecutors including DNA.
