Särskilda åklagarkammaren
SÅK
Summary
Särskilda åklagarkammaren (Special Prosecution Chamber, SÅK) is a dedicated chamber of the Swedish Prosecution Authority (Åklagarmyndigheten), directly subordinate to the Prosecutor General, with exclusive prosecutorial authority over criminal matters involving police officers, prosecutors, judges, and certain other officials. Its statutory basis is Förordning (2014:1106) and Förordning (2015:743). Investigation activities are carried out by the Police Authority's Avdelningen för särskilda utredningar (SU), which operates in separate facilities; all investigative decisions are controlled by SÅK prosecutors. SÅK prosecutors are available 24/7 to intervene. The chamber's role is strictly prosecutorial — it does not impose administrative discipline (which falls to Statens ansvarsnämnd or the agency head).
