Summary

Established by SB 1507 (57th Legislature), the Office of the Independent Corrections Ombudsman monitors conditions of confinement in Arizona state prisons, investigates inmate complaints, and inspects each facility at least once every two years. The director is appointed by the governor with Senate confirmation to a 5-year term and operates independently of the ADCRR. The office holds statutory subpoena power for ADCRR records and submits annual reports to the Legislature. It is also distinct from and independent of the existing Ombudsman-Citizens' Aide.
