Idaho Peace Officer Standards and Training Council
Idaho POST Council
Summary
The Idaho POST Council is established within the Idaho State Police under Idaho Code § 19-5103. Its voting members include three county sheriffs or designees, the ISP Director, a county prosecuting attorney, the Attorney General, the FBI Special Agent in Charge, the DOC Director, the Fish and Game Director, and the Juvenile Corrections Director — all law enforcement or government officials; no civilian composition is mandated. The governor appoints the chairman. Under § 19-5109, the council holds binding decertification authority: it shall decertify any officer convicted of a felony and may decertify for Code of Ethics violations. Its Office of Professional Responsibility conducts investigations and prepares decertification petitions. The council does not independently investigate use-of-force incidents; it acts on referrals from employing agencies, the AG, or citizen complaints.
