Summary

The Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board (ILETSB) is an 18-member body established under the Illinois Police Training Act (50 ILCS 705). Six members serve ex officio (including the Attorney General, ISP Director, Director of Corrections, and Chicago Police Superintendent), and 12 members are appointed by the Governor for 3-year terms — all drawn from LE-affiliated roles (mayors, sheriffs, police chiefs, LE association members). The SAFE-T Act (P.A. 101-0652, effective 2022) granted ILETSB binding decertification authority over all Illinois-certified officers for automatic grounds (felony conviction) and discretionary grounds (excessive force, perjury, evidence tampering). The Board has statutory subpoena power and may compel production of employment records (§6.5). Annual reports on complaints, investigations, and decertifications are submitted to the Governor.
