Louisiana Council on Peace Officer Standards and Training
Louisiana POST Council
Summary
The Council on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) is a 12-member body under the Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement and Administration of Criminal Justice. Composed entirely of LE officials (three sheriffs, three police chiefs, two DAs, the Attorney General, the State Police Superintendent, the LCLE executive director, and the City Marshals/Constables president), it certifies and decertifies peace officers statewide. Decertification is triggered by conviction of qualifying offenses or termination for unreasonable use of force after the employing agency acts first; POST does not conduct independent UOF investigations. Established by Act 397 of 1976, codified at La. R.S. §§40:2402–2405.
