Mississippi Board on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Training
BLEOST
Summary
BLEOST sets minimum training and employment standards for all sworn Mississippi law enforcement officers and has binding authority to reprimand, suspend, or permanently revoke officer certification for misconduct, felony conviction, or fraud. The board may subpoena documents during revocation proceedings and may request investigative assistance from the Attorney General. Its nine members (reduced from thirteen by 2024 legislation) are all current law enforcement officials or their designees — chiefs of police, sheriffs, the AG, the Highway Safety Patrol director, and association presidents — with no civilian seats. BLEOST has no independent use-of-force investigative mandate; such matters are referred to the employing agency or AG.
