Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission
OPOTC
Summary
The Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission (OPOTC), housed within the Attorney General's office, certifies and decertifies all peace officers in Ohio under R.C. 109.71–109.79. The OPOTC executive director may suspend or revoke a peace officer's certificate on statutory grounds including criminal conviction, use-of-force violations, and sexual misconduct (R.C. 109.75, OAC 109:2-1-06); commission hearings follow the Administrative Procedure Act (R.C. 119.01–119.13). Decertification is binding and bars the officer from serving statewide. The nine-member commission is appointed by the Governor with Senate consent; it does not independently investigate UOF incidents but acts on employer reports and adjudication outcomes.
