Response Timeline

Residency Required
False

No fixed statutory response deadline. Berlin IFG § 14 requires decisions to be made "unverzüglich" (without undue delay). If the request would affect third-party personal data or business secrets, the affected parties have two weeks to comment before a decision is issued. If the authority intends to deny the request, the applicant must be notified within two weeks of submission (§ 15). One of the earliest German state FOI laws (enacted 1999). No rigid calendar deadline exists; the federal IFG applies a one-month guideline nationally but Berlin's state law does not codify a specific day count.
