National Anti-Corruption Commission
NACC
Summary
The National Anti-Corruption Commission was established by the National Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2022 and became operational on 2023-07-01. The Commissioner is appointed by the Governor-General on the recommendation of the executive after consultation with and bipartisan parliamentary approval from the NACC Committee, for a single non-renewable 5-year term. The NACC investigates serious or systemic corrupt conduct by Commonwealth public officials, including ministers, parliamentarians, public servants, contractors, and employees of Commonwealth entities. It has coercive powers including the ability to hold public and private hearings, compel production of documents, and examine witnesses under oath. The Commission reports to Parliament and the Inspector provides independent oversight of the NACC itself.
