Summary
IBAC was established by the IBAC Act 2011 to investigate and expose corrupt conduct and police misconduct in Victoria. The Commissioner is appointed by the Governor on the recommendation of a joint parliamentary committee to a 5-year non-renewable term. IBAC can conduct public and private examinations, issue compulsory notices, and compel production of documents and testimony. It reports to Parliament via the IBAC Committee and its reports are publicly available. An Inspector provides independent oversight of IBAC.
