Summary
The State Comptroller of Israel (מבקר המדינה) is an independent constitutional officer established under Basic Law: The State Comptroller (1988) and the State Comptroller Law 5718-1958 (consolidated 1959). Elected by the Knesset for a single non-renewable 7-year term, the Comptroller conducts financial and performance audits of all state bodies, ministries, local authorities, and government-owned corporations. Annual reports are submitted to the Knesset and published publicly. The Comptroller also serves as Commissioner for Public Complaints (ombudsman function) under Part II of the same Basic Law.
