Procuratura Anticorupție
PA
Summary
The Procuratura Anticorupție (PA), established as a specialized prosecutor's office under Laws 3/2016 and 159/2016 (effective August 1, 2016), prosecutes high-value corruption cases involving any official including police and customs officers. The chief prosecutor is appointed by the Superior Council of Prosecutors for a 5-year term. PA works jointly with CNA investigators in the field. It does not independently adjudicate use-of-force incidents — such deaths are handled by the Prosecutor General's Office. The PA has full evidence-access powers under the Code of Criminal Procedure. Following the 2023 reforms (Law 245/2023), PA's jurisdiction was sharpened to focus on high-threshold corruption, distinguishing its mandate from CNA's preventive and investigative role.
