Arkansas Board of Corrections
BOC
Summary
The Arkansas Board of Corrections is the constitutional governing board of the Department of Corrections under Amendment 33, with general supervisory authority over the Division of Correction (state prisons) and Division of Community Correction. Seven members are appointed by the Governor for seven-year staggered terms with cause-only removal protection; one seat is reserved for a criminal justice faculty member at a four-year university and one ex-officio seat goes to the chair of the Post-Prison Transfer Board. The Board approves policy, reviews annual audits, and submits biennial reports to the Governor and General Assembly. The statute does not grant express subpoena or independent investigative powers.
