Connecticut Police Officer Standards and Training Council
CT POSTC
Summary
The Police Officer Standards and Training Council (POSTC) is within the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection. Under CGS §7-294d it has binding authority to certify, suspend, censure, and revoke (decertify) police officers and instructors statewide. The 2020 Police Accountability Act expanded its powers and diversified its membership to include justice-impacted individuals and higher-education faculty alongside police chiefs and government officials. The council chairperson is appointed by the Governor; other members are appointed by legislative leaders, police associations, and ex-officio commissioners. POSTC can receive referrals from the OIG to consider decertification after unjustified-force findings.
