71/100

Summary

The Louisiana State Police Commission is a constitutional body (La. Const. Art. X, Pt. IV, effective 1991) with exclusive binding disciplinary authority over all classified Louisiana State Police officers. It consists of seven members: six civilians appointed by the governor (with Senate consent) from university-president nominees, plus one sworn officer elected by state police employees. The commission has full subpoena power and the power to administer oaths; may appoint a referee with subpoena power for hearings; and its rules must be made publicly available. Officers may not be dismissed except for cause in writing with appeal rights to the commission. It is the strongest officer-accountability body in Louisiana's LE oversight landscape.
