Summary

The Ontario Ombudsman is an independent Officer of the Legislature appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council on the recommendation of the Legislative Assembly, for a 5-year renewable term. The Ombudsman investigates complaints about administrative actions and decisions of Ontario government ministries, municipalities, school boards, hospitals, and other public bodies. The office has broad investigative powers including the ability to examine witnesses.
